20120104-071757.jpg Located in Saint Paul’s historic Cathedral Hill neighborhood and in the middle of Selby’s Restaurant Row, Dr. Chocolate’s Chocolate Chateau is conveniently located just west of downtown Saint Paul.

The Trott/Birch House was designed by Herman Kretz, a German born architect who settled in Saint Paul in 1887. Built in 1890, the house is unique to the Twin Cities because of its height–a full three stories and a partial fourth floor. Kretz is responsible for many other buildings in the area including the Blair Arcade (Selby & Western), the Commerce Building, and the Waldorf Flats on Summit Ave.

  1. Hi, Dr. Chocolate! I had a great time with friends this past Thursday night at the Chocolate Bar — the Death by Chocolate was divine! We also enjoyed the chocolate cake ball and several excellent appetizers — it’s great to have this place in the neighborhood. So glad the gorgeous mansion is being kept up. It was a fun surprise to meet you upstairs in the bar area and to chat with Mrs. C on our way out downstairs. We’ll be back — I’m looking forward to trying brunch next. Thank you again. Also, kudos to Jason for providing great service and making delicious drinks and to Jeffrey for taking requests!
